Patrick Pollen - Stained glass artist

Patrick Pollen (1928-2010) was born in London. His great grandfather was John Hungerford Pollen, an Anglican clergyman who converted to Catholicism. He was a decorative artist and amateur architect and in 1855-56 designed and decorated University Church, St. Stephen's Green, for Cardinal Newman. Patrick was inspired to study the art of stained glass by Evie Hone's major window in Eton College Chapel and came to Dublin where he worked under her tutelage in a small studio attached to An Túr Gloine, Upper Pembroke Street. Apart from Ballinteer, his work can be seen in many churches including Christ Church Cathedral Dublin; Galway and Johannesburg Catholic Cathedrals; St. John's Tralee; St. Michael's Ballinasloe; Murlog, Lifford; and Milford, Co. Donegal.
