The ten candidates with Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and Fr Kevin Doran are:
Noel Ryan, Jim Adams, Eric Cooney, Gabriel Corcoran, Albert Fiedeldey,
Charles Kavanagh, Gerard Larkin, Steve Maher, Gerard Reilly, Joseph Walshe.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin celebrated Mass in the Church of the Divine Mercy, Lucan South on 17th September 2010. During the ceremony he welcomed ten candidates for the Permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of Dublin. They have completed the first year of their three year formation programme and during the ceremony declared their acceptance to the permanent diaconate.
Among the candidates was our fellow parishioner Noel Ryan from our Church of St. John the Evangelist, Ballinteer. Noel is currently studying for the Diaconate at Mater Dei Institute in Clonliffe College and he is also undertaking a practical training programme in Ballinteer Parish.
Archbishop Martin said that this was an historic occasion in the Diocese as it was the first time that such a ceremony had taken place. The 2nd Vatican Council recommended The Permanent Diaconate but it is only now coming into place in Dublin. It is a Ministry of Service and he stressed that all Ministries must be collaborative and not exclusive respecting one another's dignity. We must foster a real community.
Noel and the other nine candidates wrote "We wish to express our sincere gratitude to all who have supported and guided us on our vocational journey thus far - wives and children, parish clergy and fellow parishioners, and all who have contributed to our formation. We are grateful to Archbishop Martin for his expression of trust in admitting us as candidates for the permanent diaconate. We thank the parish community of the Divine Mercy, Lucan South for their warm welcome and hospitality."
